PrecisionBiotic® cultures are unique bacterial cultures that have been specifically researched and rigorously tested by PrecisionBiotics.
All our products contain bacteria that occur naturally in the human gut and are at home there.
We have created special formulations which are stable, ensuring that none of our products need refrigeration.
We're often asked why our products contain only 1 or 2 types of bacteria, instead of a mix of 5 or even 10 types.
As scientists, we know that mixing multiple bacterial cultures can mean their individual qualities are affected. Different cultures behave in different ways and may even have competing effects. Cultures of animal origin are not native to the human gut so we do not add them.
It is the specific strain of bacteria and how that culture interacts with your unique gut bacteria that determines whether you will notice a difference.
Our focus is investing to find the best bacterial culture.
We produce a pure formulation, with no added bulk yoghurt or animal cultures, to provide a PrecisionBiotic® product that we can guarantee and that healthcare professionals can recommend.
We also guarantee that the number of bacteria is the optimal amount for each PrecisionBiotic.
Most yoghurts contain bacterial cultures. If bacterial cultures have been added during the manufacturing process, they may not be cultures that have been tested in clinical trials or that are native to the human gut.
Alflorex® Immune contains the PrecisionBiotics® Bifidobacterium longum PB-VIR™ culture.
This unique culture has been specially formulated with extra strength vitamin D to support the normal functioning of the immune system*.
The PB-VIR™ culture is a naturally occurring and safe bacterial strain, belonging to the Bifidobacterium longum species; these are types of bacteria passed from mother to baby at birth.
It was discovered by PrecisionBiotics and has been the focus of research since 2010.
The key ingredients are the PB-VIR™ culture and vitamin D3.
It also contains :-
Please see the outer pack for a full ingredient list.
A single tablet of Alflorex® Immune contains 1 billion (1x109) Bifidobacterium longum PB-VIR™ colony forming units (CFUs), at the time of manufacture.
CFUs are an indication of how many bacterial cells are present.
The number of bacteria in each Alflorex® Immune tablet has been chosen for optimal efficacy.
The gut produces more than 90% of the serotonin found in your body 7, a neurotransmitter that can affect your mood and feelings of happiness and pleasure. Research has shown that gut bacteria can impact serotonin production in the gut8 and research indicates that a gut with a healthy microbiota is a strong predictor of health and wellbeing9.
Stress is often described as a feeling of being overwhelmed, worried or run-down.
In everyday terms, stress is a feeling that people have when they are overloaded and struggling to cope with demands. Stress can affect people of all ages, genders and circumstances.
Some stress can be beneficial at times, producing a boost that provides the motivation, drive and energy to help people get through situations like exams or work deadlines15. However, an extreme and prolonged amount of stress can have health consequences and adversely affect the immune, cardiovascular, neuroendocrine and central nervous systems24.
Modern life can be busy and often mean feeling stressed. Stress left unmanaged can influence health and well-being affecting mind and body.
Signs of stress include17:
Zenflore, with the unique 1714-Serentitas® culture and specially selected B vitamins, provides support for your mind and body during busy and demanding times, reduces fatigue and supports mental performance.*
The special 1714-Serenitas® culture in Zenflore was discovered and developed by PrecisionBiotics and has been clinically studied1 in partnership with scientists and clinicians from one of the world’s leading centres of research on the microbiome.
The special 1714-Serenitas® culture in Zenflore acts by becoming part of the gut microbiota that are involved in the gut-brain axis, the 2-way communication between brain and gut via the vagus nerve4.
Each culture has its own properties and all cultures are different. Each culture may impact the gut but this does not mean it will also have an impact on the brain. Very few cultures have been studied for their impact on the brain, and those that have been studied showed varying results.

As with most food supplements, a dose of antibiotics could inactivate the Bifidobacterium longum PB-VIR™ bacterial culture in Alflorex® Immune.
If you are prescribed a course of antibiotics, we advise that it is best to take the dose of the antibiotic at a different time of day to when you take your daily Alflorex Immune tablet.
Alflorex® Immune contains 400 international units of vitamin D (i.e. 10 μg cholecalciferol or vitamin D3), which is 200% of the nutrient reference value (NRV). The daily dosage of vitamin D supplements (sometimes with calcium) prescribed by GPs or available in shops is also often 400 international units of vitamin D. This is the daily amount recommended for the general population for general health and in particular to protect bone and muscle health.
In a few people, taking too many vitamin D supplements over a long period of time can cause too much calcium to build up in the body, causing health problems. The HSE Ireland website states that taking 25 μg (i.e. 1,000 international units) or less a day of vitamin D supplements is unlikely to cause any harm.
Some people have medical conditions that mean they may not be able to safely take as much. If in doubt, or concerns, you should consult your doctor.
Yes. There is no evidence available that Alflorex® Immune tablets should not be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
There are no known interactions with other supplements or with medicines.
If you have a serious medical condition or have questions before taking Alflorex® Immune food supplement, please consult your doctor.
