Party with Freedom

We all have an image of festivals in our heads, where we turn up with glitter in our hair and stylish wellies with the sun beaming down on us as we dance around a field to our favourite songs. Weeks before the event we start to check the weather forecast and as the day draws closer we have to make the final decisions about what we should pack for the weekend. Sun cream as well as your raincoat and good comfortable shoes… those are the basics. Some people will have a few more worries on your mind that aren’t glitter related!

If you need some advice on how to make the most out of your weekend at a festival, check out our tips below.

1. Bring your own toiletries:

And bring plenty! You’d be surprised how handy baby wipes and toilet roll will be for so many things! You can be sure you won’t be caught in a little port-a-loo with no loo roll, or there may not be somewhere to wash your hands after you use the bathroom. You can be safe in the knowledge that you can feel clean and fresh when you have baby wipes.

These will also be of use when you wake up and realise that dancing in mud means it will be splashed all over you. Expect others to try and barter with you for a pack of baby wipes, for festival living they are invaluable!

2. Keep your gut going!

While you may be planning how you can fit as many gigs in as possible, don’t forget to plan when and what you will eat. Make sure to plan your activities with enough time to eat a good meal, or snack throughout the day to ensure your stomach isn’t running on empty. You’d be surprised how hungry you will be after hours of dancing and singing along to the bands on stage.

3. Bring your own food

While you’re making your plan on when you can eat, make your shopping list of what food you can bring with you. There’s no way to store perishable foods in a tent unless you feel like lugging your fridge with you, so some of your old reliables might not be able to come with you for this trip! Try to pick dry foods that don’t need to be kept in a fridge and won’t go off once opened. Remember, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Having fresh milk with cereal might not be an option, but you could try breakfast bars or granola.

4. Dress appropriately

As well as bringing clothes to suit the Irish weather, think about wearing outfits that will make you feel good! Let your tummy be free of tight fitted clothes and you’ll have more chance of enjoying every moment! This is the perfect opportunity to have fun with your wardrobe, with colourful patterns and miss matched items that you never thought would look so good with wellies!

5. Buy a VIP bathroom ticket

If there is anything you will get your money’s worth from, it’s a ticket to use the VIP toilets. The luxury! Less queues, more loo roll and they’re cleaner…how much better could camping get?

6. Pitch your tent near the toilet blocks

If you can’t get access to the VIP bathrooms, do your best to have your tent set up near the port-a-loos. You’ll be able to keep an eye on the queues and only have to make a short dash over if you need the toilet unexpectedly.
